Certified, vetted teachers
Classroom-experienced New Jersey educators, background-checked before their first session.
Our certified New Jersey teachers work with Ridgewood students at every level and across every subject, from elementary reading and math to middle school, high school honors and AP courses, and the SAT and ACT. We support families at both the public and independent schools in and around Ridgewood, and each plan is built around your child's actual classes, assignments, and goals.
Ridgewood High School gives strong students unusually specific places to aim. The AP Capstone program adds Seminar and Research courses on top of a long AP list, the two-year Ridgewood Advanced Health Professions program serves students eyeing medicine, and the EPIC pathway threads engineering design through the sciences. The school even caps juniors and seniors at five AP classes per year, a policy that says something about how much Ridgewood students take on. A tutor helps your child hold their footing in that company, in one course or across several.
Students reach the high school through one of two middle schools, Benjamin Franklin or George Washington, after six neighborhood elementary schools, and honors placement decisions begin in those middle years. State testing runs alongside: the NJSLA in grades 3 through 8 and high school, then the NJGPA in eleventh grade. Most Ridgewood families treat the October PSAT of junior year as the starting gun for SAT or ACT prep, and many begin the summer before so scores are settled ahead of senior-year application deadlines.
Because the work is course-specific, tutoring here starts from your child's actual syllabus rather than a generic outline. A certified teacher can steady a sophomore through honors chemistry, coach an AP Capstone research paper, or rebuild algebra fundamentals before gaps compound, with sessions in your home anywhere in the village or online when the season gets busy. Parents tell us the goal is rarely rescue; it is keeping a capable student confident in a building full of capable students.

Our learning-disability tutoringACT points are usually lost to the clock and to unfamiliar formats, both fixable.
What it looks like: Your student knows the material but cannot finish sections. Reading has always been the crunch, four passages against the clock, and rushing the last passage costs a predictable cluster of points.
How our tutors help: Tutors build passage-order strategy, per-passage time budgets, and the skill of letting one question go. The redesign adds breathing room per question, and we retrain pacing to exploit it instead of racing old habits.
What it looks like: Students who write well still miss comma splices, misplaced modifiers, and redundancy questions because they answer by what sounds right instead of by rule.
How our tutors help: We teach the finite rule set the ACT actually tests, roughly a dozen grammar and rhetoric patterns, until recognition is automatic. It is the fastest score movement on the whole test.
What it looks like: Science is becoming optional on the redesigned ACT, and families are unsure whether to take it. Meanwhile the section itself was never really science: it is speed-reading charts under extreme time pressure.
How our tutors help: Your tutor helps you decide based on target colleges and your student's data-reading speed, then trains the section if you keep it: find the variable, trace the trend, ignore the jargon. Most students improve fast once they stop reading every word.
What it looks like: ACT math reaches back to content juniors have not touched in two years, circle theorems, trig ratios, logarithms, and there is no formula sheet provided.
How our tutors help: We audit the backlist topics against your student's diagnostic, rebuild the rusty ones, and drill the formulas the ACT expects from memory. Targeted review beats re-teaching all of high school math.
